I have been to Almonte many times and really enjoy the quaint little town. It’s so cute that Hallmark movies have been filmed here. I’ve been to the Almonte farmers market, walked up and down, in and out of the great little shops and boutiques, coffee shops and more. This time I wanted to walk a trail of some sort in or around Almonte. The Mill of Kintail Conservation Area came up in a Google Search. So, we planned a Mill of Kintail visit.
The Mill of a Kintail is a beautifully groomed conservation area along the Indian River. There is a small fee to park but it’s not that much. I think around $6 for 4 hours or so. A nominal amount for what can be done there. Initially, I didn’t really know what could be done there but there was much more than I expected.
What can be done and seen at Mill of Kintail
- There is the little Mill of Kintail museum on the property which I stopped into but didn’t explore on this visit.
- There is area for events where I wedding was taking place during our visit.
- There are plenty of beautiful spots for a picnic.
- They even have tea on the property during the summer!
- There are a few different trail loops that are very easy to do. There are a few hills, but the trails are wonderfully marked, easy to identify. It makes walking a joy and easy to enjoy the atmosphere and scenery.
- Dogs are welcome and allowed on leash which I think it perfect.
- Public washrooms were great too. Big and clean for an outdoor, public facility.
I really enjoyed our Mill of Kintail visit. It’s perfect for a day out which comfortable seating areas by the water, on the grass; areas to have a picnic; walking in the woods, in the sun or along the water. And I love that dogs are allowed. Of course, it’s close to Almonte if you want to get that quaint little town vibe, an ice cream or some fish and chips from the Cheeky Chippy.
