The good, bad and ugly of Westboro farmers’ market!

Estimated read time 2 min read

The weekend before Canada day I decided to stay in town and visit some of the local markets. This included the Westboro farmers’ market. Now, I had heard of this market a while back and was eager to visit it. So eager, that I went to visit the market before it even opened for the season in early May. Note to self, this market opens on May long weekend!

What I loved about this market was despite how small it was, it was so densely packed with vendors. This made the market seem so much bigger than it really was. There was such a variety of vendors, everything from prepared foods and meals, fruits and vegetables, baked goods even flowers. It was another great surprise. I was pleasantly surprised I was able to find parking on Golden, a short walk away from the Westboro farmers’ market.

There was a lot of good at the Westboro farmers market. The bad, not much except perhaps some of the prices. But the high prices that some vendors charge isn’t restricted to jus the Westboro farmers’ market. It’s something I’ve noticed by vendors at many of the markets I’ve visited so far. Hopefully, once the harvest season starts and there were be more reasonably priced fruits and vegetables.

I ended up buying a few things: spring rolls, samosas, wontons, cheddar and jalapeno bread from Art-is-in, strawberries and strawberry jam. I also spoke to some people from the the Ottawa Gardening Society, I think. It seems there is no cure for chipmunks digging in my plants. I also spoke to a really nice girl selling bouquets of flowers, Irises, from her garden. Definitely a farmers’ market worth visiting at the end or start of your visit to Westboro Village.
