Recently I learned about the Ottawa Street Markets and how it’s made up of a group of four farmers markets in four different areas of the city, Alta Vista, Elgin Street, Carlington, and Beechwood. We normally try to take a drive outside of the city to visit both a farmer’s market and a small town near Ottawa. But a couple of weekends ago we decided to stay in town and visit a local farmers market, the Beechwood Farmers Market. It was a pleasent surprise. First, I don’t think I have ever been to that corner of New Edinburgh, Ottawa. It was very pretty. Located along the bike path in Stanley Park. There was a nice variety of vendors, produce, dog treats, artisans, baked goods, prepared foods, drinks, and more. We ended up buying some strawberries, corn and apple butter. We also came across Happy Tails dog treats again.
Really nice market. However, the hours are 9am-2pm and we arrived after 12pm. We noticed that a number of the vendors were gone, paking up, or were out of product. This was a bit disappointing. There was a bakery that was packing up and a number of spots that looked empty. Parking wasn’t that great. There was street parking near the park however, not much. We ended up parking on the street a few blocks away. It’s wasn’t a long walk away but it did take a bit to drive around and find parking. I would suggest either coming early, getting parking near by and having a chance to visit all the vendors, or just find parking a few blocks away and being prepared to walk. The neighbourhood is very pretty and walkable so it doesn’t feel like a long walk at all.

This is not specific to the Beechwood Farmers Market but to Happy Tails dog treats. We would love to try them however, the price and size of the packages are so big that it makes it a too large of a commitment to try treats for the first time. Hope you can offer a samller package of dog treats!
