Ginger is a flowering plant whose rhizome ginger root is used as a spice.  Ginger is in the Zingiberaceae family which includes turmeric cardamom and galangal.  Some of the uses of ginger have included as a spice in cooking and has also been used for medicinal purposes in the form of a tea or supplements.  There is also some thought that ginger may help relieve nausea, vomiting and aid in digestion.  The antioxidants and nutrients in ginger are thought to help prevent or treat arthritis, inflammation and other infections.  Ginger may also reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer and other health issues.

Uses of Ginger

  1. Help with nausea and vomiting
  2. Menstrual cramps (take orally the first 3-4 days of menstrual cycle)
  3. May reduce pain or osteoarthritis (taking orally seems to help a bit)
  4. May help minimize morning sickness

One tasty use for ginger is candied ginger. I’ve always enjoyed it and wondered how hard could it be to make it. So, I Google for a recipe for candied ginger and it really wasn’t that hard to make! Certainly worth giving it a try!
