While I haven’t gotten to any new farmer’s markets yet this 2024 season I have been following the Petawawa container market closely on Instagram this year. Every time I see their posts I’m thinking, I have to check this container market out! It looks so cute! And the vendors so cool! I finally decided to make the trip up to Petawawa. I didn’t have enough time to visit Petawawa itself but I had good 30-45 minutes to visit the container market. I’ll have to make another drive up there to explore the town and visit some of the trails.
The container market was smaller than I expected but very cute! I did a little research into this container market and it seems it’s is project by the town of Petawawa proposed in 2020. The ideas was to create a market place out of containers adjacent and old railway line that has been turned into a trail. The market would reflect the history of the area. More can be found about this project by Bell+Associates Architecture.
Clearly what I saw this past weekend was a work in progress but it’s very cute! There were maybe a 10 or containers/vendors. Each container similar yet uniquely and beautifully designed and arranged by each vendor. I love walking through farmers markets and craft sales, checking out the different booths. But in the booth or tent setting the hum, buzz and distractions of the other vendors and patrons can be felt. However, in the container setting there seems be a private feeling while it being open to the atmosphere. I enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing how it progresses and grows over time.
While I walked by and visited each container there were two that caught my attention. The first was Small Town Co. This vendor had more than a container they had an entire trailer. A trailer coloured a dusty rose colour. It reminded me of the In Pursuit Pink Truck I saw in St. John’s New Brunswick 6 summers ago. I was so excited to check it out that I picked Norm up and in we went. I was caught off guard at how spacious and all the beautifully displayed merchandise that I forgot to take a picture. Trust me it was! I really enjoyed browsing through everything and of course I couldn’t leave without getting something little!
The other vendor that made me stop and take notice was Levi and Liv’s Designs. Lots of beautiful pet supplies and toys. Lots of variety and pictures on the Levi and Liv’s Design Facebook page. She had a variety of items but what really caught my attention were the fun little homemade poop bag covers! I had to get one.
My visit to Petawawa was a quick stop on my way to the LeTerrain Nature Preserve but definitely the highlight of my Labour Day long weekend. I am looking forward to visiting again soon.
