Our second weekend in September was an ambitious weekend for farmers market. The plan was to visit the Cornwall Kinsmen Farmers Market and then on the way home, we stop by the Williamsburg Country Market. We made it to the Cornwall Kinsmen Farmers Market with an hour and a half to spare. This market was larger than I thought and well laid out. It was in a parking lot beside St. Lawrence College and there was plenty of parking available. It was right beside the river. So there was a beautiful view and a walking path close by.
All the vendors were arranged in a U shape. On our first walk around the U of vendors, we just looked around. There was a variety of vendors including produce, baked goods, artisans, and even a homemade shortbread vendor with samples! Unfortunately, there was no dog treat vendor. There also weren’t many dogs at this market. We met one dog on our way into the market. On our second walk around the market, Norm got noticed and we got stopped! Norm made a number of friends during our second walk around the market and we met Linda’s Garden Goodies. Wow! She had quite a variety of jams and jellies. I left with Pear and Ginger Jelly which barely lasted the week. Very yummy combination! There was also a coffee vendor who was very nice, Cafe Elba. The Cafe Elba vendor was very kind and suggested a wonderful coffee to start with for a tea drinker, Costa Rica Tarrazu, which I’ve been enjoying every day since the market!
All in all the market, while quiet initially, turned out to be quite warm and welcoming. And not just the market, but the town. I didn’t notice any seating area but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any or that there aren’t places to sit nearby. There is a path along the St. Lawrence River which we didn’t have time to enjoy but looked like a lot of fun.
Driveby the Williamsburg Country Market
Now the Williamsburg Country Market. This wasn’t far from Cornwall. However, when we arrived, or rather, when we drove by, the market was very small. Only, what looked like two vendors. There could be many reasons why the market was so small. In the end, we didn’t stop in Williamsburg, this time. I have heard good things about this market, so it may be worth another visit next season. Until then, it remains the market located in Jay’s Tries and Repair’s parking lot. It is worth noting that it was very difficult to locate the market by its address in Google Maps. However, looking up Jays Tires and Repair in Williamsburg, ON was easier and fortunately, that’s where the market is located.
