Canada Day this year proved quite adventurous when it came to farmer’s market visits. Originally the plan was to go to another farmer’s market this Sunday, July 2nd, 2023 but I learned about the Ecotay Market. From what I understand, Ecotay is the name of the business and property. The business is the property for events. Events seem to include weddings, barn dances, pizza pop-ups which I need to try, and the Ecotay Market. The property is located in Perth, Ontario an area I have poor experience driving and navigating. For whatever reason it seems like the Bermuda Triangle of Ontario since my phone and GPS never seem to have consistent reception leaving me driving around aimlessly in circles if I’m not careful. Fortunately, the cars in front of me were heading in the same direction.
The property and setting were very beautiful. The layout of the vendors was wonderful including some indoors, some outdoors, and on different levels. Visiting all the vendors gave you a chance to walk around the property and take it all in. There was an area where food was being sold and seating that allowed you to look down on all the other vendors. The indoor vendors gave you a chance to cool off. There was also a lot of seating and benches throughout, not just where the food was. A performer was on hand singing songs. No comment on the chosen performer, but it is a nice touch and seemed to provide a source of entertainment for families and kids. There was plenty of parking however signage with directions towards the exit was a bit small and hard to see. It was definitely dog and kid-friendly as there were plenty of both. I heard some elderly people go on about how there should be railings on some of the steps. There could be more railings however, there were other ways to get up hills that didn’t include steps, so everything was accessible. Washrooms were available too. It was a surprisingly nice and well-laid-out venue in the middle of nowhere!
What did I buy? Well, not much as I was all tapped out from my farmers market adventures from Canada Day. However, I did find a vendor selling tea and herbs, Calredon Herbals. Looking forward to trying my purchases. I did find the vendor very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions.
I have absolutely no idea if this market is a regular thing, but I hope so as it was a very nice change of both setting and vendors for a summer market.
