This past weekend I visited the Carleton Place farmers market. I probably had higher expectations than I should have for this time of year because last week I had visited the Carp farmers market and was very pleasantly surprised. I didn’t dislike the Carleton Place farmers market but it was very small. There were two rows of vendors under this covered area. There were a lot of great baked goods, jams, chutneys, relishes and prepared foods. No produce yet. Rhubarb, garlic, onions, various leafy greens but it’s still too early. The vendors themselves were actually very nice. Out of the all the markets I have visited so far, the vendors at this market were the nicest and had the best customer service. I loved the vendor with the onion jam. I wish I got her name but she was lovely and the onion jam every better! The woman, her daughter and the grandmother with all the baked chocolate chip loaf were also quite nice and were good about taking the time to tell me about all their products. I’m looking forward to going back again later in the season when there are more vegetables and produce. Until then, every other week they have an additional row of artisan vendors joining the market, entertainers and more. I really like that they market is focal point of the town once a week.

Next week another farmers market in the area. Until then, a few pictures of the Carleton Place farmers market below.
While the farmers market didn’t take long to go through this week, I decided to walk around the town. The main street was under construction but the shops all still open. It was nice. Some more great baked goods, churches, rogue knitters covering the town in knitted squares and the Mississippi River. More pictures of the rest of Carleton Place below.
